إجراءات لاستعادة ميزان الكون

انحن المسلمين مدعوون لأن نعمل على خدمة الكون ونتحلى بالعدل في معاملتنا مع بعضنا البعض. في الوقت الحالي، تتأثر مجتمعاتنا من برانزويك إلى بيت لحم ومن جرانفيل إلى غزة بعوامل التلوث وانتهاكات حقوق الإنسان الناجمة عن استخراج وحرق الوقود الأحفوري مثل الفحم والنفط والغاز.

يتم حرق هذا الوقود في السيارات ومحطات الطاقة وآلات الحرب، والتلوث الناتج عنه يؤدي إلى ارتفاع درجة حرارة الأرض التي نعيش عليها. كان العام الماضي هو الأشد حرارة على الإطلاق، كما أن تلوث الوقود الأحفوري يجعل الظواهر المناخية القاسية أسوأ وأكثر تواترًا. تشكّل موجات الحر والفيضانات وحرائق الغابات مخاطر صحية ومالية جسيمة علينا جميعا، وخاصةً على الفقراء وكبار السن.

وفي الوقت نفسه، تستفيد شركات الفحم والنفط والغاز من استخراج الوقود الأحفوري وحرقه وتصديره بصورة غير عادلة. وتحظى هذه الشركات بدعم الحكومات التي تستمر في الموافقة على مشاريع الفحم والغاز الجديدة. لذا علينا أن نتحد كأمة واحدة للنضال من أجل مستقبل آمن واستعادة ميزان الكون.

ثَمّة طرق عدة نستطيع من خلالها أن نكون جزءًا من الحل؛ حيث يمكننا إجراء تغييرات إيجابية في نمط حياتنا، واستخدام الطاقة المتجددة، والتحول إلى البنوك والصناديق الكبرى التي تستثمر في الحلول المناخية بدلاً من الوقود الأحفوري. كما علينا الانضمام إلى الآخرين الذين يطالبون حكوماتنا ببذل مزيد من الجهود لتقديم الأفضل.

Action to restore Creation to its Mizan

We Muslims are called upon to act as stewards of creation and act justly towards one another. Right now, our communities from Brunswick to Bethlehem, from Granville to Gaza are impacted by the pollution and human rights abuses that come from digging and burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

These fuels are burnt in cars, power plants and war machinery, and the pollution they produce is heating our planet. Last year was the hottest year on record, and fossil fuel pollution is making extreme weather events worse and more frequent. Heatwaves, floods, and bushfires are a serious health and financial risk to us all, even more so for the poor and the elderly.

Meanwhile coal, oil and gas companies are profiting unfairly from the digging, burning and exporting of fossil fuels. These companies are supported by governments that keep approving new coal and gas projects. We must unite as an ummah to fight for a safe future and restore creation to its mizan.

There are many ways that we can be part of the solutions. We can make positive lifestyle changes, we can use renewable energy, we can switch to banks and super funds that invest in climate solutions rather than fossil fuels, and we join with others who are asking our governments to do better.
